Derrick Osmond Levy, Sr, 78, of Russells, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, W.I., passed away on Sunday, November 5th, 2017 in Plantation, Florida.
Visitation will be 5pm- 8pm Friday, November 17, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Plantation, 150 NW 46th Avenue, Plantation, Florida 33317.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 am, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Plantation, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Prendergast of Evangelistic Tabernacle, officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens- Central. Funeral arrangements are by Broward Burial and Cremation.
Derrick Osmond Levy, Sr was born in Russells, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to Mr. Hurdley Levy and Ms. Olive Findley on September 22, 1939 – the 2nd of 6 children. He went to school at Russells School, St Elizabeth, Jamaica. He married Delsie May Thomas on April 1st, 1967 in Kingston, Jamaica.
He worked as a harbor pilot in Kingston, then in various positions at the bauxite mining company, Alumina Partners (ALPART), St Elizabeth, Jamaica for over 25 years. After emigrating to South Florida in 1986, he worked at Florida Ordinance (Ft. Lauderdale) for over 15 years. He was involved in Rotary Jamaica (Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth chapter), and leading the chapter to be instrumental in getting Haitian children immunized for the first time in 1982 during the Rotary International District 404 Assembly meeting held in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
Derrick Osmond Levy, Sr is preceded in death by Brother – Hubert Levy; Uncle - Raphael Findley; Aunt – Brenda Levy; Cousins – Hazel Levy, and Derrick Levy.
Derrick Osmond Levy, Sr is survived by his wife of over 50 years: Delsie May Thomas-Levy, his Children: Dale Dunkley, Yvette (Willie) Thompson, Karl Levy, Nadine Levy, Angelique (David) Levy-Walters, Derrick O. Levy Jr; his Sisters: Viris, Mildred and Lorna; his Brother: Delroy; his Grandchildren: Danae, Dirk, Danielle, Dania, Nande, Julian and Cameron.
