Marianne Riess

Jun 5, 2018

Marianne Riess, 98, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, was called from this Earth on June 5, 2018, passing peacefully in her sleep.

Marianne was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife and mother who was born in Germany , the youngest of four children. She came to this country in 1951 after her post WWII work with the US International Courts. First spending 2 years in Italy working as a translator, she was called back to Germany during the war. Marianne subsequently became an interpreter/translator for the US Courts during post war trials.

Marianne was blessed to marry the love of her life, Henry Riess, in 1952 and lived their loving journey together until his passing in 1989. She is survived by her daughter, Jean-Ellen, her son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Ursula, and her six grandchildren, Alexandra (and husband, Patrick), Bianca, Eva, Henry, Annika, and Britta.

Marianne was a strong and loving matriarch who cherished life and loved her family fiercely. She enjoyed a very full and fascinating life, including her work as a realtor at Old Port Cove in North Palm Beach for 18 years. In retirement she was able to again travel the world, forever studying and continuing to learn and use her four languages.

Marianne will be greatly missed by her family and many friends but will live on within us by her example and in our many warm memories, as she is now at peace with God.

Funeral will be held Friday, June 22nd at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Ambrose Church in Deerfield Beach with a reception to follow at her home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marianne to: Amvets, 4647 Forbes Blvd, Lanham, MD 20706

The Scheerer Family has known the Riess for over 40 years. They were one of the first friends my husband introduced me to. But it was more like family. I’m very thankful I was given that chance. Marianne was always very kind and thoughtful of my kids. She was an incredible strong loving women. I’m in Houston so I can’t attend the service. But I’m sending all my love and prayers to the whole family. I’m sure she is having a scotch with my husband Joe.

On my visits to Florida, Marianne was the charming and entertaining matriarch at the table. She was colorful and fortunate in life, always surrounded by her loyal and loving family.
